Deadline to submit a proposal: Friday, April 28, 2023
As we continue our transition into the NYS revised standards and remain committed to making our classrooms the best spaces that they can be for our students, we are looking forward to the 2023 NYSAFLT Annual Conference, World Language Education: Supporting Our Students, Supporting Each Other, to be held October 20–21, 2023 at the Marriott Downtown in Syracuse, NY.
We are still reeling from the effects of the pandemic and more than ever, we need to support our students to help them be the best they can be academically, emotionally and personally. And we also need to support each other so that we can make sense of the challenges that we face daily. Exchanging ideas and strategies and inspiring each other will allow us to refine our craft, to thrive in our daily lives, and ultimately to bring authentic, relevant linguistic and cultural experiences to our students.
The program will include three-hour pre-conference workshops for in-depth learning, as well as a wide variety of one-hour sessions over the course of the conference. We welcome all proposals – those with a connection to our theme, as well as those that address topics of general interest in the field. Please direct all questions to firstname.lastname@example.org. The 2023 conference will be on-site only and there will not be a virtual component.
Time Slot Options:
Presenters may not request a specific time slot. Please understand that, when scheduling up to 75 different sessions and events, it is not possible to honor special requests. Workshops and sessions will be scheduled as follows – please ensure your availability to present if your proposal is selected.
Friday morning we will offer three-hour pre-conference workshops. During these workshops, presenters can allow more time for interaction and offer more in-depth treatment of high-interest, current issues in world language education. Up to two co-presenters may be listed for a pre-conference workshop. Registration fees for presenters selected to present a three-hour pre-conference workshop will be waived.
Sessions are one hour in length and may or may not be specifically aligned to the conference theme. Up to four co-presenters may be listed, including the main presenter/contact. Registration fees for presenters of sessions are not waived and all presenters/co-presenters must register for the conference.
For-profit individuals and entities, vendors, and service providers renting space in the exhibit hall may submit one session proposal per booth rented (pre-conference workshops excluded). Proposals received after the deadline are subject to availability. (See detailed policy linked above.) Please visit our exhibitor page for more information about registering to exhibit.
All proposals are due by April 28. Our conference planning committee will meet mid-May to review proposals and presenters will be notified early summer, once our schedule has been finalized.
All presenters are required to register for the conference. With the exception of pre-conference workshop presenters, standard registration rates apply. You do not need to be a member to submit a proposal, but you must be a member at the time of registration.
