Nominate a world language student to win a $5,000 study abroad scholarship with CIEE

In a mission to recognize student achievement in language learning, NYSAFLT is partnering with CIEE – the country’s largest nonprofit study abroad and intercultural exchange organization – to launch the first annual “New York Language Student of the Year Award.”

This award provides world language teachers in New York an opportunity to put forth the endeavors of their best students and highlight their own achievements as well. The runners-up and the winner will all receive scholarships to study abroad on a CIEE Global Navigator High School Summer Abroad Language & Culture program, and the winner will be honored in person at the annual NYSAFLT conference.

How does it work?
The students you nominate will be expected to travel on a summer abroad program if they win a scholarship, so make sure you nominate students who are open to the opportunity and excited about studying abroad.

You can nominate up to 5 students at any proficiency level, as long as they qualify to study abroad on a CIEE program. Nominate your most deserving students! Students with a passion for global discovery, dedication to learning a world language, and eagerness to learn outside the classroom make strong candidates. The prize is open to freshman, sophomores, and juniors.

Nominated students who do not win the “NYSAFLT-CIEE Language Student of the Year” award could still be awarded a Global Navigator Scholarship to study abroad with CIEE!

Prizes:
  • One winner will receive a $5,000 Global Navigator scholarship for a CIEE High School Abroad Language & Culture program and an expenses paid trip to be honored at the 2019 annual NYSAFLT Conference.
  • Two runners-up will each receive a $2,500 Global Navigator scholarship for a CIEE High School Abroad Language & Culture program.
  • All nominated students who complete applications will be considered for a Global Navigator Scholarship.
