Ruth E. Wasley World Language Teacher of the Year Award
Given to a NYSAFLT member who has demonstrated excellence as a K-12 and/or post-secondary teacher.
The Ruth E. Wasley NYS World Language Teacher of the Year Award was named after a former secretary of NYSAFLT and a professor and teacher/trainer of foreign language methodology at SUNY Albany. Extremely innovative and creative, and known for her sense of humor, Dr. Wasley was a methodologist par excellence and an outstanding role model for her students. In 1969, Dorothy Rivers Shoudy was the first recipient of the Ruth E. Wasley Distinguished Teacher Award.
The winner of the Wasley Award is subsequently nominated to the NECTFL TOY competition, the winner of which goes on to the ACTFL TOY competition. To see an overview of the entire process, click here.
